My name is Sarah Luke, and I am a writer and teacher based in Sydney, Australia.
My history of the old Callan Park lunatic asylum in Balmain, Callan Park, Hospital for the Insane, was published by Australian Scholarly Publishing in July 2018. It is currently shortlisted for the 2019 NSW Premier’s History Awards (NSW Community and Regional History Prize). You can order a copy online here or purchase a copy in bookstores. If you are interested in finding out more about the history of Callan Park and mental health in New South Wales, you might like to attend a tour of the site with the Friends of Callan Park.
I am currently working on a history of the boys of the Vernon and the Sobraon, the ‘Nautical School Ships’ which were docked at Cockatoo Island in Sydney in the mid- to late-nineteenth century. This book, Like a Wicked Noah’s Ark on Sydney Harbour, will be published in 2020.
